You are invited to the unveiling of We Should Talk: The Greatest Poem on November 8, 2023 from 6 pm – 8 pm ET at the Gallery Y at Anthony Bowen YMCA, 1325 W Street, NW, Washington, D.C.

Artist Thu Anh Nguyen and cultural strategist Philippa Pham Hughes are spearheading the creation of an art installation that includes a 15-foot flower garden mural incorporating expressions of identity from hundreds of AAPI women. awakening to spring

A workshop exploring painting and floral arranging!

Attendants will meet in the Corn Crib at Rocklands Farm and begin with a walking tour of the gardens, meadows, and woods, identifying and harvesting spring ephemerals and tree blossoms along the way. We will combine our foraged materials with local spring treasures such as tulips, ranunculus, anemone, daffodils and poppies in a multi-bud vase composition. Our arrangements will focus on line, color, texture, and depth.

After a short break, Thu Anh will instruct attendants on watercolor techniques for painting botanicals “en plein air” and you will spend the evening practicing your new skills with your floral arrangement as your subject matter.

***All supplies will be provided, along with wine and snacks, and everything is yours to keep.***

This workshop is intended for adults with all skill levels. Please wear garden-appropriate footwear and dress for the weather! The Corn Crib is fully covered but open on both sides. This workshop will be limited to 20 attendants. Tickets are non-refundable, but are transferable.

As part of our ongoing social justice work, and in recognition of art and nature as vehicles for connection, healing, and expression, we are offering two (2) scholarships for this workshop as a means to increase accessibility. Please get in touch via e-mail to nominate yourself or a friend.

Together we will spend a late summer afternoon experiencing all the amazing florals, herbs, and fruits available locally at this time of year. After a short break, Thu will instruct attendants on watercolor techniques for painting a moody Dutch still-life inspired piece and you will spend the rest of the evening practicing your new skills with your floral arrangement as the subject matter.

***All supplies will be provided and everything is yours to keep.***

This workshop is intended for adults with all skill levels. Wine and snacks included. Please wear garden-appropriate footwear and dress for the weather! If the weather is inclement, the workshop will be held indoors. Workshop size will be limited to 15 attendants, Tickets are non-refundable.
